Celestial Eye Goldfish, also known as Choutengan, are marvelous creatures that are highly adored by fish enthusiasts for their unique and distinguishing characteristics. This breed of fancy goldfish is recognized by its pair of telescope eyes, which are turned upwards, giving the illusion of the pupils looking towards the sky. This unique trait is what gives the fish its celestial name.

Interestingly, when the fish are newly hatched, their eyes appear normal. As they mature, the eyes gradually protrude sideways, much like the Telescope Eye Goldfish. However, over a period of six months, the eyes of the of this creature turn strictly upwards.

This goldfish has paired fins which resemble those of the Fantail or Ryukin variety. Its caudal fin, or tail, can be as long as its body or half the size. Most commonly, they possess metallic scales that are colored in shades of orange (often referred to as 'red' by fish enthusiasts), white, or a mix of red and white.

Despite their limited vision and lack of a dorsal fin, these fishes are active and agile swimmers. However, their unique physical attributes also require some special care and attention.

These hybrids often possess short fins similar to the Ranchu variety and deep, blocky bodies, often with nasal 'bouquets' (pompoms) and rudimentary growths on the head. The color range amongst these hybrids is more expansive, with metallic specimens appearing in chocolate, black, and various bi-colors, in addition to the standard metallic colors.
